Bet David Religion School

The Bet David Religion School runs classes for various ages and levels of Hebrew/Jewish Studies knowledge. A child passing through the entire Hebrew School system (4 consecutive years) will be fluent in Hebrew reading and writing and have a good background of Progressive Judaism.

Children should enrol in the Religion School in the year in which they will turn 10. The Religion School is headed up by Giddy Lief who is assisted by Jenny Correia.

Classes are run on Shabbat mornings before the services.

Class Times:

Requirements for Bar/Bat Mitzvah:

1.   The candidate's family must be members in good standing of Bet David.

2.   The candidate must have attended our Religion School on a regular basis for at least 3 years prior to the celebration of Bar/Bat Mitzvah, unless transferring from another synagogue Religion School or a pupil at one of the King David Schools. KDS pupils will be required to attend a special class on Shabbat Mornings for at least 12 months.

3.   The Bar/Bat Mitzvah date must be agreed by the parents of the candidate with the rabbi at least 12 months in advance. If the candidate is unlikely to reach our required standard by his/her 13th birthday, then the rabbi may recommend a later date of celebration.

4.   The candidate must attend Shabbat morning services on a regular basis for at least 12 months prior to the date of celebration and must also attend all Festival Services during that period.

5.   Because Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration is a family event, we expect parents to attend Shabbat and Festival Services with the candidates.
